Hello, I'm Evangelos Tzemis. My journey through the world of photography has been guided by a principle of simplicity. This artistic pursuit didn't begin in photography, however. My path has been paved with varied and vibrant experiences from the precision of computer science to the evocative realms of sound engineering, and the expressive world of dance and music.
I initially explored photography using a Fujifilm, favoring 23mm and 35mm lenses, which helped me to learn the art of framing and perspective. Now, I embrace the clarity and challenge of shooting with a single lens on a Leica Q3, a 28mm lens that compels me to focus on capturing the essence of the moment without distraction.
I've lived in Copenhagen and Geneva—cities that have shaped my artistic and analytical abilities. My background in dance and music, traversing the globe, and teaching 'Modern Folk dances' enhances the rhythm and motion I try to capture in my photography. At Acoustic Vibe Studios, where I merge music with technology, I craft soundscapes that accompany my visual stories. Each photograph I take weaves together these diverse threads of my life, aiming to tell a story that resonates.
My work is profoundly influenced by renowned photographers such as Alex Webb, who said, "I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner?" The depth of emotion in Steve McCurry's portraits, the stark realism in Nicos Economopoulos's compositions, and the insightful street photography of Joel Meyerowitz all inspire my vision and approach.
